MCI Screening Test - How to pass MCI screening Test

Hello Friends,
I am starting this today on the idea given by Dr.SriShweta Reddy to start a thread on success stories on people who clear MCI so that it can be a inspiration to others.
First of all, i would like to tell you i am from Chennai. I did my under-graduation from Mauritius SSR Medical college. I  worked hard throughout 5 years. I came back on December 2010. There were not many people to guide regarding the procedures as to
1.How to apply for MCI.
2. Late submission of documents.
3. Which banks to take DD from etc.

My seniors Dr.Mani Vannan and Dr. Sankar Narayanan helped a lot. I then thought , if this was the plight for me then it would be so for the thousands of students all across India. I had started learning web designing from a good friend Dr.Ronak. So i decided to experiment. I was an amateur back then, so I started with a blog initially.

During MCI Exam Days

I took coaching in DIAMS Hyderabad ameerpet. The fees was Rs.34,000. Luckily i had my uncles house in Banjara hills to stay, otherwise lodging and food would have cost more. I took coaching for a period of two and a half months from January 5th to March 10th. The classes would begin early morning 8 or 9.00 am and would extend up to  9.00pm in the night. For preparation, i had used many books. I used to do as many mcqs as possible. Sometimes i used to solve the mcq's as an when the class was going on. I used Across volumes for small subject and Subject-wise mcq`s of the authors who taught us in the coaching class. The teachers there were good and experienced. I wrote nice notes, though i relied heavily on my good memory. I think it's vital to understand everything in the class. There will be no time to go back and study. If you have any doubt, you should try and solve it then and there.
I was drilling myself and working for probably 10 hours a day. I collected all the test papers, practice papers. I started solving all the past papers. The book MCI screening test - Kamal KV was probably the easiest book to solve. It will give you plenty of confidence.

Few Days Before MCI

I had some tension because, i hadn't received my hall ticket. I received the hall ticket quite late and it said you have to submit more documents. This is something that will happen if you had to submit documents incompletely. But i must say, don't be afraid, the MCI people will definitely let you write the exam and give you 10 days after the exam to submit the remaining document. I was getting scared a little bit 2 days before the exams. I used to go to my friends house to discuss important topics like Ophthalmology and PSM from our classNotes.I was just wondering how my other batch-mates were preparing, those who were there in Delhi. I was having a sleepless night, the day i was about to go to Delhi. I landed at Delhi on 24th, with one day to go. I was reading till 2.30 am. The exam was at 9.00 am. I somehow managed to sleep. My friend Dr.Vipul picked me up from Rohini west and took me to our center(he too had the same centre). I was so surprised to see the huge number of people writing the test. Everybody was tensed. I checked whether i bought my passport along, my pen along.
(Please take your writing pad along, as the benches are really not that good.)

MCI Screening Test - During the exam

I got the last room in the building. There were only 4 students. I was telling myself to write down my number correctly and properly. They wont give you another OMR sheet, nor the question paper once you start writing in one. Hence you have to check it properly that it has all pages etc. I was having palpitations as the bell rang and the invigilator gave the question paper. But i`ll tell you guys, once you see the paper, you'll give a sigh of relief. Every page will roughly contain 12 questions, out of which 6 you will definitely know, 3 or 4 will be very easy to solve and the rest being new questions. I saw other students copying and asking friends etc. Though this is dangerous practice, i would suffice to say its better you rely on your own knowledge. If you have worked hard for the last 2 months, and you know your ability do not listen to others answers. More often than not, it leads to confusion. I had finished my exam ahead of time.

MCI screening test - The day of the result

Many of my friends received their results on 1st April itself. I did not get mine because of late submission of documents. I had to wait till 7th April. I heard many of the people who attended coaching with me failed. I was getting palpitations again. On 7th April i  came to know almost all of my batchmates from my college passed. They were telling i got 201, i got 205 etc. It was sounding very cheerful. I immediately ran to my laptop, typed my roll number - and voila!

Bharath Raj Kidambi - Score 234/300

I knew it was unexpected. But i have to tell you, all those days of 12 hours classes in Ameerpet payed off. I immediately sent a mail thanking all the teachers who taught me. It was the happiest day of 2011 till now!

Off course , the course after that is different. I am yet to begin my internship and feeling why the heck did i get234/300 in MCI screening test. But clearing MCI with 234 will give you a very different kind of  satisfaction!
Old saying still hold true - " Hard work never fails"

Regards
Dr.Bharath

People, i urge you to post your experiences. It may be different from mine, which is why i need you to post. It will help other students who are going to prepare for the exams.

  2. @dinesh:- Well Dr.Dinesh,
I myself am a bookworm, but i would not recommend you to buy any further books. Well Maybe, if you do not have DIAMS final punch , may be that you can because it is meant for last minute revision. First, have confidence. Do as many MCQ's as possible and revise them. If you do not have a source of mcq book then, buy an one source of mcq book and keep working on it. DIAMS golden points is a useful book for quick revision of all the subjects. I wouldn't however recommend medicine chapter in it. You have mudit khanna for it. Try and revise as many questions from mudit khanna as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  3. @dr.dinesh:-
I hope you meant you have the entire mudit khanna book not just 2010 solved paper. If you want to have a look at DIAMS final punch scanned pages
    GOLDEN POINTS

  4. @supriya:- well, if you ask me, paradoxically i would say if you are a good student, i think you can be better off by studying abroad because of 2 reasons:- 1. You will have lots of free time to study. No disturbance from family functions etc. Off course, you should try to maintain a line between occasionally enjoying the countryside and beaches(i studied in mauritius!) disco's n all and being a full fledged party freak doing drugs n all. This is entirely on your hands.
    2. You will know you're true potential, what you are upto.

Disadvantages:- time gets wasted coming back writing MCI, waiting for certificates, NOC etc.
Few of my friends i met in coaching class did their internship also outside and came back and wrote MCI passed it, and went straight to coaching class for PG!

Well the advantages in india - great number of cases. enough material to gain knowledge.
Disadvantages:- cost , distractions (india is too much fun! esp if you have lots of friends etc) i dont think education here nowadays is as good as it is boasted to be. Yet the sheer number of cases helps one to be familiar with the disease!

Finally, i think it should be your personal decision not influenced just by my opinion. Decide where you want to settle down and chose a wise decision. All the best!

    ReplyDelete
  5. @ supriya:- you can purchase my notes if you want, but i dont think you can attend DAMS while doing MBBS. It may not be that useful. It may not be advisable to spend 34000 initially while doing MBBS and then what if some pattern gets changed when you finish MBBS?

    ReplyDelete
  6. hi!will your notes be useful for mbbs course in abroad.

are there ny other documents apart from the above mentioned ones which i need be taking with me?
I hope i have not asked too many questions at once...keep up the good work...

    ReplyDelete
  13. take originals, ur own stapler, gum etc.no fees at dwaraka. just show this, and submit it and take back the originals safely.
It will take around a month for them to send you the provisional certificate. You'll get a tracking number. You can check your status using the MCI online registration checker, which is given on the menu bar on the left in my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @anonymous:- mentioned as online tracking.

    ReplyDelete
  15. ok...I have completed by internship according to the duration mentioned by MCI , and I heard to get permanent registration we need to wait for 3-5 months ..is it true..as i wanted to appear for AIPGME...

    ReplyDelete
  16. @anonymous :- as i said, 1 to 1.5 months maybe. not 5 months n all. That is if your documents are proper.

    ReplyDelete
  17. hallo dr bkid you have created nice portal. my daughter clered it at same year of her study comletion from Ukraine. She straight went to Delhi from Ukraine just one day prior to last late date of NBE submission. She finished with submission formalities, joined DIAMS in Delhi but took transfer within week to DIAMS Ahmedabad caz to save acoomodation cost of Delhi. Attended two month with 10 hrs in coaching went 2 days prior to Delhi. five days after examination ( on 30 th Sept 2011) result out got call from friend, passed (171/300). every thing was without much stress and tension. in nutshell, take it easy , study hard as it always pay, do not think it as burden, if have studied well, getting 50% is not hard task. Two and half month with coaching plus self prepration is enough, KEEP CONFIDENCE.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @anonymous:- well said. i completely agree. Focused studies for 2 months is enough.

2nd:- concentrate on medicine, surgery, obg, peds,PSM,ophthal, micro, pharmac, patho then anat, biochem.
Don't touch psychi, fmt, dermat etc if you don't have time.
Read from some nice small books, (materials/notes/platinum etc) so that u will be able to revise. If you don't revise , you will forget.
Keep specific target and finish it. Don't go for too many voluminous books now.

Nowadays, mci is changing its trend with each year.As far as syllabus is concerned, i suggest you keep an open mind. The questions are not as twisted as PG papers, but mc has a little bit of twist, and some new topics each year nowadays.

    3. I would like to say one thing. Think about the people who passed. Don;t think about the one's who didn't. IF few people can, you can too. It's nothing great. SO it depends more on where and how you study and utilize your resources than where you study.

    1. Dr.sugundha, without clearing MCI screening test, you won't get registration number. Well legally speaking , you are not allowed to do practice. But i know people who have been in private practice without clearing MCI. I wouldn't advise you to do it though. But it is happening in India.
Take admission in india itself , in case you are afraid of MCI exam(which you shouldn't be by the way).

    2. In India they are asking for donation i am wait listed but they wont clear it if i don't give donation so no option left other than Nepal.my parents are not ready for Russia or china.
Actually the statistics about MCI above are worrying me that's it.its 29% today what about after 5 years when il pass out?il try my best what else can i do!
