MCI SCreening test - Provisional registration

Hi Dr.Bharath.
I am Chandanraj doing my mbbs in china . I started my internshp here in china from june 2011 I will graduate from my university in July 2011( next yr). I applied for MCI screening test meanwhile for September 2011. I submitted all the documents as per the form. Hopefully if I pass the exam this september they said they ll give a provisional registration. Then I'll continue my internship here in china and graduate and can I apply for permanent registration after I graduate or is there any time validity after for that provisional registration? Hope u ll guide me in this matter
waiting for ur response
Regards.

  1. Hello Dr.Chandanraj
(I gave a scanned copy of my provisional certificate. There is a validity period of 2 years)
Look at the attachment.Provisional registration has a validity.
But your case is interesting. I would suggest you to finish your internship in china even after passing MCI, and then when you finish, apply for permanent registration. In the form given by MCI, there must be places where you must filled up about internship details.
Which place you are doing and how many months etc.

    Regards
    Bharath

  2. thanks for your info. How long does it take to receive nbe pass
certicate aftr exam result . Aftr receiving nbe pass certicate within
howmany we have to apply for provisional is there any validity for nbe
certicate ? if so please tell me Becoz according to this I should
apply for my leave here in my hospital .

  3. I got my MCI result on april 7th. i got my NBE pass certificate on may1 st week etc. i went to delhi immediately. there is no validity on NBE pass certificate. i applied for MCI on may 2nd week. i got my privisional certificate on June 1st. Unfortunately how long will it take to receive the certificate is unpredictable issue. One of indian govt's many fallacies.

  4. Is there any obligation that to apply for provisional registration
taking all the documents along with nbe certificate do we personally
have to apply for Or can we send anyone on our behalf.or by post . Is
this possible? Becoz may be I personally couldn't submit all those
because I am here in china . Thank you so much.

    ReplyDelete
  5. You can allow a different person to apply on your behalf, but originals will be needed for verification.Though, i would advice you to send it with someone reliable, and not by post unless absolutely necessary.

  6. hello dr. bharat raj
I will be sitting for screening test this september .Im living abroad and using old edition of mudit khana AIPGMEE volume 1 which contains papers from 1994 to 2002 .Volume 2 is new and contains latest papers , Do u think it will be a problem using the old edition of vol 1 ?

    ReplyDelete
  7. @ anonymous:- Well doctor, using the old edition of mudit khanna might not be a great issue. If you can prepare subject-wise quickly, you have a greater chance. Concentrate on Anat, biochem, patho, pharmac, ENT, ophthal, PSM , OBG &GYN, Pediatrics, Medicine and Surgery. Dont concentrate too much on FMT, Dermat, psychiatry etc. If you haven't joined any coaching, i would suggest my class notes and DIAMS books would be a nice substitute for the coaching class if you are willing to work hard.

  8. I think if my presence is not need there while applying then I'll have to rely on my dad for applying on my behalf .
Thanks a Million Dr.Bharath , really u have helped me a lot. And i should say your attitude really inspired me. Your blog is good a good place share our knowledge . I am native of hyderabad .I hope we ll get a chance to
    meet in person .

  9. hello Dr.Bharath,
Your blog is very helpful.Good job!God bless you:)
im a final year medical student studying in Lithuania,Europe. Im planning to do my MD/specialization in Europe itself after this year. Regarding MCI screening test, shall I do the test right after this year or after my specialization? Is there a different MCI screening test for the specialised doctors from abroad or is it the same for all? Thankyou:)

    ReplyDelete
  10. @ Dr.Sheena:- Hello Dr.Sheena!
I always wanted to visit Europe!
    Regarding your question,
MCI screening test is the same for every Indian citizen who has studied abroad. But I must tell you if you study specialization outside and write MCI, only your MBBS Degree will be recognized if you wish to practise in government. You can use your MD/MS degree in your private practise though. I will check if there has been any change regarding this issue. From the information i have gathered for my specialization, i can tell you that, try and do specialization MD/MS wherever you wish to settle down(Although i know this is not applicable always). If you feel writing Indian PG exams might be a problem, you can still do your specialty there in Europe and come back practise in private here in India.

    ReplyDelete
  11. thankyou so much Dr.Bharath:)You are always welcome to Europe!:)
    I have some more questions:
-if im doing MD in India,i have to pass an entrance examination, right? how hard is it/is it easy to get through/ what is your personal opinion about it?
-could you give me an idea about the tuition fee for MD/MS in India?(as i heard that its very expensive)

    ReplyDelete
  12. @dr.Sheena:-
My personal opinion- nothing is difficult if you prepare to work hard. Of course the competition is high for All India PG entrance, but getting through is not impossible.
Regarding your question of tuition fees, i think you mean the capitation fee in private colleges for which you need not write entrance exam. It is quite high depending on the subjects. From what i know, radiology costs highest Rs.1.10 Crore! others are around Rs.70 lakhs to Rs.80 lakhs depending on the college. I can't believe people actually pay these amounts and study, but they do!

    ReplyDelete
  13. wooww..:O
so, if one gets through the entrance exam for PG, they dont have to pay the hospital or govt.anything for 3 yrs, OR do they have to pay tuition fee per semister? (i was asking about this..im sorry,my qn. was not specific)

    ReplyDelete
  14. @sheena:- After getting through the exams, the tuition fees has to payed, and also hostel fees if you stay in hostel. But it is very nominal amount. Let's say even the whole cost won't cost you more than Rs.1 lakh.

    ReplyDelete
  15. thanks a lot Dr.Bharath!:)

  16. Dr. Bharath, I am a recent graduate from china. I am planning to appear MCI on March. Lets say incase I go through it I wanted to pursue MD in the UK or US. I know i have to pass TOEFL OR IELTS for that but besides that do the other countries also have PG medical entrance exam like India. If yes what are the procedures and vice versa??

  17. @anonymous:- Offcourse sir you have USMLE for United states and PLAB for UK, AMA exam for australia etc. There are many websites regarding those mr.anonymous and i wont be able to tell you all the details in this comment. Just search for USMLE and PLAB. You will get plenty of information. A very good site is RxPG.com

    ReplyDelete
  21. @anonymous:- I think there will be an exam in ireland doc, am not sure. I know for US, UK , australia. Don't know about Ireland. But if you want to come back to india, you have to clear MCI screening test to get your MBBS validated. They won't recognize your MS from ireland in government hospitals, but you can practise in private with your degree.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @anonymous:- Sorry Mr.Rajesh, i do not have access to the list of students who have passed.
Although when you go to delhi, and apply for provisional registration you will get to see a big list which contains all names, roll no. results etc. They don't give it out.
If you want to know your result, you can do it by entering your roll no. in www.natboard.edu.in

    ReplyDelete
  30. The validity of Provisional certificate mentioned by you in 1st FAQ - 2years is the validity of starting of internship or it should be finished by 2 years? If I can't start my internship within this period than what should I have to do? reapply for provisional letter or re-exam?

    ReplyDelete
  31. @anonymous:- the validity is to start the internship. If you exceed, then no big deal; you have to produce a affidavit from a magistrate stating the cause for the delay in beginning the internship.

  33. @anonymous:- there are few details which you have to fill up in the application form with respect to permanent registration. Just try and download the form from my site - menu - MCI registration, and have a look. If those can be filled up, even before you complete the internship, you can do so. For eg:- they ask you to write the date of completion etc. nothing great. But then they expect you to attach the completion certificate as a proof. So usually i think people apply only after their internship is over.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @rahul:- i suggest you do those subjects from across, as much as possible. The important chapters.. do atleast anatomy and biochem. If you can't do psychiatry and dermat don't worry. The best way to do those(psychi, derma) will be some class notes, it will hardly be few pages and probably will take 45 minutes to finish those subjects, and you will get 2 or 3 questions right.

    (3) He/She has studied for the medical course at the same institute located abroad for the entire duration of the course from where he/she has obtained the degree.”

    i have 1 simple querries
    1. suppose a guy graduates mbbs from china and does not clear mci but comes to india and practices privately havin mbbs written on prescription pad is it a crime? or private practice widout mci screening qualification is not a crime?
2.The same guy after doing mbbs from china, no mci screening passing but does pg from china again say ms/md, when he comes to india can he practice privately with those degrees, what i wanna know is that is mci screening passing required only for government jobs /jobs and not for practice (privately)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1. You need state medical council number to practice privately , for that, you need to clear MCI. Even to practice privately (safely!)

      2. once you clear MCI, your MBBS degree becomes valid, and you can apply and get your state council. Then you can put your PG degree for private practise without any problem. Eg:- Mbbs MD (russia) like that.

    1. you will need to apply for permanent registration number. In india, you can apply for govt job, only after your permanent registration. In tamil nadu specifically, i know, you`ll have to clear TNPSC (tamil nadu public service commission) to get a job in govt. I think same applies to other states ( ie :- there will be some exam).

    1. Not sure regarding the choice of college dude. I did in mauritius. All went well.
I had few friends from philippines, who said apart from the format that it's 4.5 years MBBS, and you will have shorter time to study each subject. But if you can do it, that'll be great.

Depends on you. I chose Mauritius, as it was Indian college, it was easier to adapt when i came back to india. In case you are not thinking about settling in india, probably Philippines would be a better option then.

    1. If you want to do PG in govt college, most probably you have to give MCI. Try searching for some private college, PG seat(if you can afford). You may not need to give the test.

    1. Not a big problem, if you write the proper college name which has given you your degree finally in the form that you fill for MCI. Otherwise, it will create a big headache as MCI would send fax to your first college, then wouldn't receive any reply, and your documents with form will lie in MCI office for months.

I am here for my brother. He has completed his MD from Russia in 2006..And tried to clear screen test twice.Unfortunately both the times he could not pass.
and in between we lost our father and some other personal reasons he went in a severe depression. Now he is fine(not perfect) and wants to start the life again. But still he is not that much confident about the screen test and afraid of the failure. Can you plzz give us some guidance for him.is there any other alternative of screen test like I have heard that 1 year of internship, kind of, not sure..I saw ur blog and thought you can help us..

      Thanks a lot

    2. Guidance, only close relatives should give dude.
It is definitely not difficult to clear the exam. He should not be afraid of failure. So what if he fails? he should learn and be better next time.
I would not advice any alternative ways to clear MCI. Just prepare for it, write it and clear it!

My options: 1) applying in person, 2) Via post, 3) via internet.

  102. Hello,
I just completed my intermediate 2nd year (BPC) and am planning to do MBBS.As you very well know, the enterance exam (EAMCET) is very competative and management seats are not cheap. Therefore i searched for MBBS in other countires and was really interested in Crimea State Medical University,Ukraine and Tianjin University,China.
Im really confused as to which country to go to as both of them to my liking.
I plan on continuing my studies in Canada or the US.

If you could please give me a few suggestions or tell me which University would be a better choice it would really sort out my confusion.
    Thank you.

    1. I am a FMGe and a PG aspirant, i don't think i am the right person you should take advise from regarding which college to join. From what little experience i gathered, i can say that students from ukraine, phillipines, mauritius , are slightly better than other places. But isolated brilliant students do come from Russia, China etc. It would depend on your aptitude to study.
Since you have idea about going to US and Canada, choose a place where you may get your VISA to US without any problem. Because academically, you wouldn't be very different from any other college student. Take other factors into account like your financial credibility etc. I had chosen mauritius, because it was within my dad's affordability and it had indian teacher's so that the transition of coming back to india wouldn't have been a problem. (it hasn't)
Ask few college students in both places and decide for better clarity. Hope this helped you a little.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The validity would be written in your provisional MCI registration certificate. Usually the validity is for starting the internship, not for completion, by which i mean, once you receive your provisional, you are supposed to start within a year ( or according to the date mentioned in the certificate itself) . Once you start, there is no problem.
All that is needed in the internship completion certificate is that Your postings in different department should add up to 12 months, and you should have done it in a recognized hospital ( If you are doing it in India).
If you want clarification, contact Registration department in MCI.
