I`ll tell you my experience in Madras medical college, and talk about advantages and disadvantages of private and government medical colleges.
Government order
Open image in a new tab, zoom and have a look. You will receive a similar government order of your postings when you join.
Govt hospitals (disadvantages)
1. In my experience, it is quite hectic - workload was hectic in most postings barring a few.
2. Most of the time, you would probably come home and sleep.
3. No stipend.
4. difficult to attend coaching classes.
5. Teaching is less. Depends on coming home and reading , which usually won't happen.
Govt classes (adv)
1. Wide variety of cases. Unbelievable variety.
2. Practical skills can be learnt easily. Ie :- Venflon, Ryles tube insertion, catheter, LP , intubation etc.
3.You would learn survival , ie :- If you can work in govt colleges you can work anywhere. Night duties , work extraction and staying with mosquito laden duty rooms would prepare you to be one tough doctor!
Madras medical college students :-
1. As any other colleges, will have mix of strong and weak students.
The studious students usually get some ranks in ALL india exam almost always. During my internship period , there were two students Shanmugam and Harsh vardhan who got AIIMS rank 3, Jipmer rank 2 and 3.
The students are very very aware, right from the third year. They go for coaching classes right from 3rd year, SPEED or bhatia whatever. During my undergrad days, I used 3rd year ( ENT, ophthal PSM ) time to learn guitar and drums ( i don't regret it though!)
Don't worry guys, i hope people who read this utilize the time the way you want to. If you want to get a PG seat, better start going for coaching classes right from 3rd year wherever you studying!
Regards
Bharath
If someone works in private colleges, and want to tell your experience feel free to do so!
